Our New Comic Book Shows the Power of Family Outreach in Preventing Hereditary Disease

When you talk to your relatives about hereditary disease, it can be hard to explain how genealogy leads to disease prevention. Our new comic book, Genetic Inheritance, can help. This fictional story of a family with a pathogenic variant is inspired by the lives of ConnectMyVariant members and the powerful results of their work. Share this book with friends and family to help them understand how family outreach can make a difference and what to expect as a member of ConnectMyVariant.

Read the book online and download a digital copy for free here.

If you'd like free physical copies of the book, or you want your genetic counselor or healthcare provider to receive free physical copies, email info@connectmyvariant.org.

Sharing Your Genealogy Information with the BYU Center for Family History and Genealogy

ConnectMyVariant's July 2025 newsletter highlighted the Brigham Young University Center for Family History and Genealogy (CFHG). Our partnership with this center has helped many ConnectMyVariant members build genealogies and meet distant relatives.

Are you interested in working with the CFHG? ConnectMyVariant does not automatically enroll all our members in the center's programs, and we don’t send any member information to the genealogists there. We do introduce the CFHG staff to members who express interest. At that point, staff at the center will reach out to you. If your or your variant group decides to work with them, you will send your information directly to the CFHG. For more information, contact Betty Parkins at betty@connectmyvariant.org.
